How to prepare for a GLP-1 appointment: what to bring and what to track

GLP-1 appointments are short, and the useful question — "is this dose working, and are these side effects settling?" — needs four to eight weeks of history behind it.

1. Log the dose, not just the injection day

Date and amount. The amount matters because titration is the whole point of the first months. A log that says "took it" tells a clinician nothing about whether the step up was tolerated.

2. Mark titration changes as events

A dose change is a dividing line. Everything before it and everything after it are different experiments, and a summary that mixes them together hides the answer you are looking for.

3. Do one symptom check-in a week, on the same day

Weekly beats daily here. Daily entries become noise and get abandoned; a weekly check-in on the same day produces a clean series that shows direction — settling, stable, or getting worse.

4. Write down the questions before you go in

Two or three, in your own words. "Is nausea at this dose expected to fade?" and "Should I stay at this dose another month?" are answerable. "I have felt rough" is not.

5. Bring one page

Dose timeline at the top, symptom frequency underneath, questions at the bottom. That is a document a clinician can read in thirty seconds while you are still sitting down.

Where an app helps

An app is good at holding the timeline and turning it into that page. Visitrep logs doses and titration changes, takes a weekly symptom check-in, and exports a one-page visit report as a PDF. It reads weight and steps from Apple Health only if you choose to share them, and never writes back to Health.

Common questions

What should I track on a GLP-1 medication?

Each dose with its date and amount, any dose change (titration), and a weekly symptom check-in. Weight and step data help but are optional.

How often do GLP-1 doses change?

Titration schedules differ by medication and by person. What matters for an appointment is that changes are dated, not that you remember them perfectly.

How do I bring my data to an appointment?

A one-page summary is easier for a clinician to read than a scrolling log. If your notes are in an app, look for a PDF export you can print or email.

Does tracking replace medical advice?

No. Record keeping supports a conversation with your prescriber. It does not diagnose or recommend treatment.

General information, not medical advice. Talk to your prescriber about your medication.
